Welcome to Explosion and Core-Rotational Training.

The purpose of this book is—you guessed it—to offer aspiring ballplayers, youth coaches and parents some recommended drills and exercises designed to build up a player’s overall strength, dexterity, endurance, athleticism and core-rotational power. These are complex movements that will benefit the quick twitch, athletic movements that are required to be the best baseball player—and athlete—you can be.

Look at the explosion of movement that occurs when a hitter swings the bat, or when a pitcher winds up to throw. Look at the outfielder crow-hopping into their throw, or an infielder snagging a ball to their right and rotating around to fire a sharp throw to 1st base.

To be a baseball player, you need to train to be an athlete, pure and simple.

In sports, there will always be a place for pure power lifting and heavy load training. Players will see that kind of training in most competent high school and collegiate level training.

But, the game is always adapting, and if you are not adjusting and progressing with it, you are falling behind. Being a good baseball player is not just about size and brute muscle. This book will focus on building the athlete within--working complex, aggressive, athletic movements designed to build your functional strength and athleticism. This makes you more likely to keep healthy and strong during season, be able to involve your entire body into short burst movements, and be the best athlete you can be.

Many of these drills will require a great deal of total body coordination and athleticism as they combine plyometric movement and medicine ball training. Some movements may look familiar; others will look completely foreign. They may take some time in developing efficient “feel” or rhythm. Keep an open mind and maintain a willingness to try new things. Be it in medicine ball training, plyometric movements, or core-rotational drills, do your best and forget the rest. Working hard now will make playing the game that much more sweet—because you will be ready to go.
